Dear Colleagues,

We invite you to submit an abstract for the poster session 2-g, "Advances in
Geochemical Volcano Monitoring", part of the Volcanoes and Eruptions
symposium of the IAVCEI 2008 meeting in Reykjavik, Iceland, to be held
between 17 and 22 August 2008.

Note that the deadline for both submission of abstracts to the IAVCEI 2008
meeting and early registration is 1st April 2008

Abstract Submission can be performed here:
http://www.iavcei2008.hi.is/page/I08-absub

A summary of the focus and purpose of session 2-g follows:

------------------------------------------------------------------------
Symposium 2: Volcanoes and eruptions

2-g Advances in Geochemical Volcano Monitoring

Geochemical surveillance of volcanic systems provides valuable insight into
physico-chemical aspects of magmatic degassing, hydrothermal systems and the
petrochemical evolution of magma prior to eruption. Geochemical measurements
are an important constituent of volcano monitoring and results may feed
directly into eruption forecasting and hazard assessment. Enormous strides
have been made over the past decade in developing instrumentation that
delivers high-quality datasets for an ever-increasing range of parameters.

The purpose of this session is to examine the state of the art in
geochemical volcano monitoring, with a view to furthering our understanding
of magmatic and volcanic processes. We therefore invite contributions
presenting novel measurements and interpretations encompassing all aspects
of geochemical monitoring, including gas emissions from magmas and soils,
fluid geochemistry, ash leachates, particulate matter in volcanic plumes and
geochemistry of lavas and tephras, over various timescales. Our challenge is
to link measurements with viable physical and chemical models; we encourage
contributions that address such issues in particular.
