Dear Colleagues,

We would like to invite you to participate in the following session to
be held at the IAVCEI General Assembly 2008. The deadline for abstract
submission is 1 April 2008. Please use the IAVCEI website

3-e Volcanic and geothermal systems at the Earth's surface: from
fumaroles and mudpools to volcanic lakes

Crater lakes, mudpools and fumaroles are among the main visible
features of volcanic and geothermal systems and often serve as
calorimeters and chemical monitors of the underlying volcanoes. We
invite papers for a special session on volcanic lakes, fumaroles and
surface springs with a focus on all aspects of their chemistry and
physics. We encourage submitting papers that deal with monitoring,
including remote techniques, geological and environmental issues of
volcanic lakes and fumaroles, acid fluids, alteration mineralogy,
sediment records in volcanic lakes and biological processes.

This session will focus on:
- The chemistry and physics of volcanic lakes
- The geochemistry of acid fluids, fumaroles and mudpools
- Volcanic lakes and fumaroles as chemical monitors of underlying
volcanoes
- Sediment records in volcanic lakes
- Acid fluids and acid surface alteration mineralogy
- Biological processes associated with acid fluids

Please contact any of the conveners if you have questions:
