Description:
A key goal in volcanology is the accurate forecasting of volcanic
processes and hazards. Volcanic hazards include lava flows, pyroclastic
flows and surges, ash/tephra fall and tsunamis, all of which may have
devastating consequences for local communities and the economy, air
travel and the natural environment. An important component to
understanding the behaviour of the physical processes that act prior to,
during and after a volcanic eruption is the development and
implementation of detailed models. Many volcanic processes are complex
and highly non-linear such that even minor changes in magmatic
properties can significantly influence eruptive behaviour. Such
attributes present significant challenges to the modelling of volcanic
eruptive events.

Recent progress with analogue, analytical and numerical models has
offered noteworthy insights into the fundamental characteristics of
volcanoes and their eruptions. These advancements allow for better
understanding, more realistic model outcomes and their correspondence
with observations in the field. We invite contributions from those
involved in experimental, theoretical and numerical studies on volcanic
processes. This session aims to draw together modelling contributions in
order to illuminate new approaches, methodologies and results.
