We would like to draw your attention to the following session at the
European Geoscience Union General Assembly 2008 and invite you to
contribute.

Vienna, Austria, 13 - 18 April 2008.

Section: Natural Hazards
Volcanic hazards

Title: NH3.4 Volcanic hazards at large silicic calderas (co-listed in
GMPV)

Session description
Large silicic calderas have been the site of the some of the largest
explosive volcanic eruptions found in the geological record. There are a
number of calderas around the world which are currently exhibiting
restlessness, as shown by continued seismicity, deformation, and/or
degassing. Yet the origin or origins of this restlessness can be
enigmatic. This session seeks to discuss the cause of caldera unrest and
their potential implications for the assessment and mitigation of volcanic
hazard by bringing together researchers from various disciplines.
Submissions which examine a particular caldera from different but related
angles are encouraged. Contributions from the fields of statistics,
seismology, deformation (e.g., leveling, geodimetry, GPS, interferometry,
and paeleodeformation), gas geochemistry, hydrothermal/geothermal systems,
gravity, petrology, high-temperature, low-temperature, and isotope
geochemistry, tectonics, and modeling are invited.

Conveners: M. Battaglia, G. De Natale, C. Troise, R. Trigila
