Just for fun I've been looking at recent ASTER data over OL DOYNIO LENGAI.
There is a nighttime scene from 7-20-2007 that is partly cloudy but definitely shows a thermal anomaly coincident with the crater. The anomaly is strong enough to show up in the SWIR channels, which means there is something on the ground with a temperature of at least 200 C (and that's a 30-m pixel filtered by clouds, so actual surface temperatures are likely higher). Going back a month, on 6-18-2007 a clear nighttime scene shows a similar thermal anomaly with temperatures of at least 300 C (30-m pixel). 2 months prior to this, there is a nighttime scene from 4-15-2007, that is again, partly cloudy - it shows a mild thermal anomaly in the TIR, but nothing in the SWIR, so maybe some temperatures just above ambient background. Daytime data from 1-23-2007 and 2-24-2007 show no evidence of thermal emission. So, there appears to be some kind of activity from mid June to late July, but it's not clear of any lava has recently spilled over the side.
Stand by to see if we can get some more ASTER data....

Cheers,
Greg Vaughan
