GNS Science, Te Pu Ao, is a Crown Research Institute of New Zealand. Our
core purpose is to understand natural processes in the earth's crust and
to transform this knowledge into economic and social benefits for New
Zealand.

Within GNS Science, the Natural Hazards Group undertakes research into
hazards and risks related to earthquakes, volcanoes, landslides and
tsunami, is responsible through the GeoNet project for the monitoring of
these hazards, and is also responsible for the national geological mapping
programme.

We have a vacancy for a volcanic fluids geochemist which offers an
interesting blend of scientific research and commercial consultancy
opportunities, and is based in Taupo in central North Island. We are
seeking a scientist to lead the development, application and maintenance
of geochemical remote sensing technologies for NZ active volcanoes,
ensuring the robust collection of gas geochemical data, its processing,
interpretation, and dissemination to GeoNet clients.

The successful candidate will:

· Have a PhD in Geochemistry with experience in geochemical data
processing and research;
· Have demonstrated experience with remote volcano-chemistry data
collection systems, especially one or more of mini-DOAS, OP-FTIR, LICOR
and COSPEC;
· Have demonstrated excellence in the analysis and/or interpretation
and/or modelling of geochemical data, particularly of emissions from
active volcanic environments;
· Have specialist knowledge of gas geochemistry associated with
volcanic systems;
·       Have demonstrated ability to collaborate with other scientists;
· Demonstrate enthusiasm and commitment to projects, and a high
degree of care and conscientiousness in their work;
· Have experience and enthusiasm to participate in fieldwork.

If you are a team player with excellent communication skills, a "can do"
attitude and want to work for a dynamic, progressive, multi-cultural
organisation then GNS Science could be the place for you.
