Progress update:

WOVOdat's technical advisory group announces that the current database schema (WOVOdat 1.0) has just been published and is now freely available for viewing and download as an USGS Open-File Report:

Venezky, Dina Y., and Newhall, Christopher G., 2007:
"WOVOdat design document; the schema, table descriptions, and create table statements for
the database of worldwide volcanic unrest (WOVOdat Version 1.0)".
U.S. Geological Survey Open-File Report 2007-1117, 177 p.

About WOVOdat:
The World Organization of Volcano Observatories (WOVO, a commission of IAVCEI) operates one of its core project goals, called the Database of Worldwide Volcanic Unrest (WOVOdat). Initiated by past WOVO chairman Christopher Newhall, WOVOdat intends to become an Internet-based volcanic "epidemiological" and monitoring tool that will define not only how data are used and exchanged between observatories, government agencies, and researchers in the future, it will also likely have an impact on the efficiency in which volcanic eruptions are forecast. By mandate from its member observatories, WOVOdat partners with institutions like the Smithsonian Institution's Global Volcanism Program, UNAVCO, and IRIS. Planning and technical design workshops were held in 2000, 2002 and 2007, and implementation of the database schema and data is currently under way in the framework of a pilot study.

Please contact WOVO co-chairman Warner Marzocchi (http://www.bo.ingv.it/~warner/ at INGV Bologna, Italy), or technical advisory group spokesperson Florian Schwandner (Colorado State University, USA) for inquiries on WOVOdat.
