*************************************** Summer School on Geodynamics and Magmatic Processes From: Freysteinn Sigmundsson <fs@xxxxx> *************************************** Lake Myvatn near Krafla volcano, Northern Volcanic Zone, Iceland August 20-29, 2007 The summer school is a venue for graduate students and post-docs to meet with an international group of researchers dedicated to the theme of the summer school with the aim of gaining further insights in geodynamics and magmatic processes. The summer school is a mixture of talks by invited speakers, presentation by participants, and field trips to relevant geological localities in the Northern Volcanic Zone of Iceland. The school is sponsored by Nordforsk and Nordvulk, Institute of Earth Sciences, University of Iceland. The school will be opened in the evening of August 20, 2007 in Reykjavík, followed by a field trip from south to north Iceland on August 21. The following seven days will include 4 days of oral and poster presentations, and 3 field trips (including the site of the 1975-84 Krafla rifting episode, the Askja caldera and its 1875 eruptive products, and a unique subaerial rift-transform intersection in N-Iceland).
