******************************************************** Summit eruption at Mount Etna Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica e Vulcanologia ? Sezione di Catania ******************************************************** From: Sonia Calvari (calvari@xxxxxxxxxx) (All times are in GMT) A new summit eruption occurred at Etna volcano on 10 April 2007 at 23:30 GMT. An increase in volcanic tremor was followed by fire fountaining and an ash cloud that drifted E. Ash fallout has been reported as far as Zafferana, about 10 km distance from the craters. The INGV-CT monitoring webcams showed the evolution of this new eruptive phase that lasted about 5 hours. The episode was accompanied by the emission of two lava flows on the summit of Etna, one towards E within the desert Valle del Bove, and the second S. The E lava flow stopped at the base of the Serra Giannicola Grande, within the western Valle del Bove, at about 1750 m a.s.l. after having travelled about 3 km. The second flow stopped near Mt. Frumento Supino at about 2880 m a.s.l..
