Hi Folks,

New Zealand's Mt Ruapehu has had a well managed and spectacular event.

The tephra dam holding the crater lake gave way at about 10.00 am on Sunday
and in one rush a lahar of about 1.3 million cubic metres of water and debris
spilled from the crater lake and washed down the Whangaehu River.

The New Zealand Heralds website for the lahar is

And some images of the lahar can be accessed at this site

Looking forward to seeing the GNS New Zealand's report on this event.

Regards

Malcolm
