Students with an A average and interests in physical volcanology are
invited to apply for PhD scholarship support to participate in a
study of explosive subaqueous volcanism. The approach will involve
analysis of basaltic fragments produced by eruptions in which magma
erupted into water at a range of depths from >1 km to the surface.
The student will be based in southern New Zealand and undertake
fieldwork in New Zealand, the western United States, and Iceland.
Partners in the project include Bruce Houghton (Hawaii), Thorvaldur
Thordarson (Edinburgh), and Magnus Gudmundsson (Iceland).

For further information, contact James White
(james.white@xxxxxxxxxxx).
