[VLAN] RE: some additional info

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

Hey Kingz,
I'm at about my end of knowledge but I believe that if a line carries multiple Vlans then it is considered trunked. (Someone please correct me if I am wrong). From what I have seen it sounds like a MTU problem. If the driver supports it you could try and shrink the MTU of the PC trying to get to the secure website and see if that helps. Make the MTU 1000 for example.

It seems like something s screwing up the packet when it becomes secure due to size issues.

You'll have to direct further questions to the list, and see if anyone else can help

Thanks
   Derek

Hi Derek,

>From the hub to the gateway must be a trunked?
On my gateway, I can see these VLAN tagged, it as if VLAN tagged traffic
can go through this bridge.

Thanks

Hey Kingz,
Well I would assume that since this thing supposedly works without
the linux bridge in place then the connection from the hub to the
gateway must be a trunk. So then that means BOTH sides of the linux
bridge need to be Trunked as well. Unless you use the linux bridge to
"untrunk" them( meaning the gateway would no longer seeing any VLAn
tagged traffic)

I would be posting these things to the list as there are others that may
be able to answer better.

Derek

Hi Derek,

The following is my network:
Internet
       |
       |
  Gateway
       |
       | eth0
Ethernet Bridge
       | eth1
       |
H u b ( one normal hub or switch , no VLAN settings)
      | \
      | \
D-Link 802.1Q VLAN Switches (their uplink port-port 1 connected to
the upper hub are tagged, those ports connected with PCs are untagged).

As your understanding, which one connect to trunked port? Eth0 or eth1?

If both NICs all use RT8139 card, it is OK?

Thanks!

Kingz

Hey Kingz,
Do both sides have trunked ports? If yes then you should use two
e100s, one for each side.

Hi Derek,

Thank you your reply!

Your meaning is, I should connect the e100 card on the bridge to the
trunked port, which side? Connect to Hub or gateway?

Thanks!

kingz
