Hi all,

  I've a doubt regarding the forwarding of a group address based on All Unregistered Group Addresses.

Consider bridge A with 3 ports. Let all ports be members of VLAN 2.

        -------
        |    2| ----->
  ----> |1 A  |
        |    3| ---->
        -------

Assume that ports 1,2 are statically configured as members of multicast group address MG1 for VLAN 2.

Additionally the following hold true:

1) The 'All group addresses' control element for VLAN 2 for ports 1,2,3 specify - Not Registered.
i.e. The dot1qForwardAllStaticPorts for Vlan 2 is reset for all ports.

2) The 'All unregistered group addresses' control element for VLAN 2 for ports 1,2 specify - Not Registered and for port 3 specify - Registered.
i.e. the dot1qForwardUnregisteredStaticPorts for Vlan 2 is set for port 3 alone.

Now, if a packet is received for MG1 on port 1 and classified as belonging to VLAN 2, should'nt it be forwarded on port 3 ?

According to my understanding it should be, since as per Table 8-7, 1Q 2003:
1) There is no static filtering for this address, vid ,port combination.
2) No Group registration entry for this address exists.
3) AllUnregisteredGroupAddress for this port and vid specifies registered, hence FORWARD (Last column, row 2).

Am I correct? Please help me confirm my understanding.

The cause for this doubt is that I am not sure as to what the phrase "Use Group Registration Information, or no Static Filtering Entry present" in Table 8-7, means.
Does it mean
  1) no Static Filtering Entry for this address, port, vid combination,

or does it mean,
  2) no Static Filtering Entry for this address.

Thanks,
Senthil.
