VDR not removing recordings

After a reboot vdr removed all deleted recordings as soon as it was up and 
running.

So it seems like there is something odd in vdr itself or in my 
configuration.

I have
vdr 1.3.23
subtitles 0.3.7
vdradmin 0.97-am3.1
