Media Contact: Bob Blasi Rain / Gallo Fires Final Update: Tusayan, Ariz., July 31, 2018—For Immediate Release. The Rain and Gallo Fires on the Tusayan Ranger District of the Kaibab National Forest are now both 100% contained. No further growth is expected on either of these incidents. RAIN FIRE OVERVIEW Start Date: July 21, 2018. Cause: Lightning. Location: One mile southeast of the Town of Tusayan . Current Size: Approximately 604 acres. Containment: 100% Incident Commander: Adam Pahl ICT4 / Tyler Richwine ICT4-T Resources: 1-20 person Type 2 crew, 2-Type 6 Engines, Total personnel assigned 28. Current Status: The Rain fire transitioned to a Type 4 incident management organization on Sunday July 29. Burn out protection actions were successful over the weekend and the fire has reached its final size. All containment lines
held and objectives were successfully achieved. Operations will continue over the next several days to mop up, hold and patrol to secure the perimeter.
GALLO FIRE OVERVIEW Start Date: July 21, 2018. Cause: Lightning. Location: Four miles northeast of Red Butte. Current Size: Under 1 acre. Current Status: The Gallo Fire has been called controlled and out as of 07/30/2018. Smoke: Some overnight residual smoke from the Rain Fire may linger but is lifting out in the early to mid-morning hours each day. Smoke may be noticeable from Highway 64 and the communities of Tusayan, Valle, and the Grand Canyon
