the Alaska Hummingbird Festival continues

KETCHIKAN, Alaska, April 19, 2017– Photographer Jim Lewis spends hours waiting to capture the perfect images of birds, highlighting their colorful details and unique adaptations. Join him for a presentation featuring photos of a variety of Southeast Alaska resident and migratory birds on April 21, at 6 p.m. in the Elizabeth Peratrovich Theater, inside the Southeast Alaska Discovery Center.

Throughout April, the Southeast Alaska Discovery Center also serves as the hub for a series of educational and creative events to promote awareness of the region’s spring migratory birds. Alaska Hummingbird Festival events include:

Birding at Ketchikan Creek. Local birder Jim Lewis will lead a walk to discover birds in the heart of Ketchikan. Bring binoculars and water and dress for the weather. Meet at the Discovery Center (8 a.m., Saturday, April 22).

Build Your Own Bird with Leslie Swada at the Discovery Center. Make your own bird sculpture and find out how every bird is adapted to their way of life. (1 p.m., Saturday, April 22).

The festival’s series of events continue through April 29. Scheduled activities include guided bird walks, the Friday Night Insights lecture series, and afternoon activities for youth and their families. All programs and activities are free to the public.
