Forest Service seeks public opinion at Katlian Bay recreation open house SITKA, Alaska, Feb. 21, 2017 – Sitka Ranger District is hosting an open house on March 2, to gather input regarding recreation opportunities on National Forest System land in Katlian Bay. The meeting will be in the Sitka office
at 2108 Halibut Point Road, from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. There will be a short presentation by the Forest Service staff; however, the main emphasis of the evening will be to gather public input. The open house was inspired by planned changes in access to Katlian Bay by the State of Alaska Department of Transportation, which the district believes may spur demand for additional recreation facilities. Potential and current users
of Katlian Bay are invited to share their ideas and concerns. This is the first step in creating a long-term plan by identifying potential recreation facilities and opportunities that could occur on National Forest System lands, as budgets allow. There will be opportunities to make comments in writing or in person.
For questions about the open house, contact Annemarie LaPalme at 907-747-4209 or by email at
