KETCHIKAN, Alaska, Feb 1, 2017 – Tongass National Forest Soil Scientist Dennis Landwehr presents
Landslides in Southeast Alaska on Friday, Feb. 3 at the Southeast Alaska Discovery Center. The program starts at 6 p.m. Discover why landslides have both good and bad ecologic outcomes. Landslide warning signs and how to stay safe in landslide prone
areas will also be covered. Landwehr has been a soil scientist on the Tongass National Forest since 1988. He is an integral part of a landslide working group assisting community, state, and federal entities better understand landslide dynamics. The Southeast Alaska Discovery Center and exhibit halls are open Fridays from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. this winter. Admission is free. Visitors are welcome to enjoy the exhibits, purchase maps, and America the Beautiful
passes, and learn about the forest from an interpretive ranger. A variety of films exploring the natural and cultural history of Alaska will be played in the theater upon request until 5 p.m. The Southeast Alaska Discovery Center is located at 50 Main Street
