Forest Road scheduled for temporary closure, bridge replacement Flagstaff, Ariz., Aug. 30, 2016, For Immediate Release —
The Coconino National Forest has scheduled West Fork’s bridge replacement and it will cause a temporary closure of a portion of Forest Service Road 231 near the West Fork
of Oak Creek Canyon. Vastco Inc. of Chino Valley, Ariz., was awarded the contract and may begin work as early as Thursday (Sept. 1) to the end of December in order to remove and build a new bridge. Traffic will not be allowed to travel from the junction of FSR 231 & 231J on the north side of West
Fork to near the FSR 231A & 231 on the south side of the bridge. Those travelers needing to go north and south in the area, such as access the Turkey Butte or East Pocket areas, will need to detour on FSR 538. For more information and a map of the road closure, please
