North Zone fire managers to conduct pile burns after wet weather
Fredonia, Ariz., Aug. 31, 2016 — For Immediate Release. Pending favorable weather conditions, North Zone firefighters on the North Kaibab Ranger District of the
Kaibab National Forest plan to conduct pile burning operations near Jacob Lake tomorrow as part of the Plateau Facilities Protection project. The removal of these fuels is part of continued implementation efforts to improve defensible space around facilities and infrastructure within the Jacob Lake Wildland Urban Interface.
The burn will consist of approximately 25 acres of hand piles that have been recently logged. The area is located directly east of the Jacob Lake Administrative Station, south of Forest Service Road 461, west
of Arizona Highway 67, and north of Forest Service Road 628. Drivers are encouraged to be cautious while driving within the vicinity of this area due to fire related traffic. Light smoke may be anticipated. For more information on how smoke can affect you, please visit
