FS seeks Yakutat Resource Advisory Committee applicants YAKUTAT, Alaska, June 6, 2016 – The Tongass National Forest is seeking candidates for membership in the Yakutat Resource Advisory Committee. The committee, chartered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, comprises 15 members representing
a wide array of interests. “Committee members have the opportunity to recommend projects for their community,” said Yakutat District Ranger Lee Benson. “We have a variety of vacancies representing interests from conservationists to government officials to private
landowners.” The committee advises the Tongass under the anticipated reauthorized Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act. Committee members review and make recommendations concerning projects proposals on or benefiting the national
forest to be funded under Title II of the Act. In a single year the committee can recommend projects in the Yakutat area with an estimated value of $95,000 a year. Individuals must live within the Yakutat area in order to be considered. Those interested in applying can get an application form and additional information from Ranger Benson by calling him at
