Invasive plants presentation slated for June 6

Ketchikan, Alaska, June 6, 2016 – Ketchikan's newly formed Cooperative Weed Management Area (CWMA) partnership group is hosting a free presentation and discussion on invasive plants from 6 to 7:30 p.m., June 6, at the Ketchikan Public Library. CWMA invites all Ketchikan City and Borough land and property owners to attend.

Invasive Plants Instructor Gino Graziano, University of Alaska Fairbanks Cooperative Extension Service, will give a brief presentation on problematic invasive plants followed by a question and answer session. He will address several topics, including common invasive plants in Southeast Alaska and methods for managing them.

During the get-together, CWMA members will also establish dates to remove specific high priority invasive plants in the Ketchikan area and review outreach materials. They will discuss a funding proposal that would aid development of long-term invasive plant management for the area.

CWMA’s goal is to integrate all noxious weed management resources across jurisdictional boundaries in order to benefit the entire community.

RSVP to Karen Hutten at 907-228-4115 or email her at khutten@xxxxxxxxx.
