DEADLINE approaches for Mendenhall Glacier Recreation Area Prospectus bid packages

JUNEAU, Alaska–The Forest Service reminds commercial businesses interested in providing outfitter, guide and transport services to the Mendenhall Glacier Recreation Area (MGRA) that the Sept. 15 deadline for submitting prospectus bid packages is fast approaching.

The prospectus invites proposals from tourism businesses interested in providing commercial recreation services to visitors. “Inquiries and comments from companies that participated in a Prospectus Open House on Aug. 21 were highly positive and we’ve used a lot of their questions to create a ‘Frequently Asked Questions’ sheet that we’ve put on the prospectus webpage,” said Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center Director John Neary.

This is the first prospectus opportunity for MGRA in 19 years and will result in the division of nearly 239,000 service days amongst tourism businesses.  Each service day represents a client participating in an activity, such as hiking, kayaking, or riding a bus.

Commercial Outfitters and Guides interested in offering services in the MGRA over the next five years should apply now.

The prospectus will be open for bids from commercial guides and transporters until 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 15, 2015. It is available on the Mendenhall Glacier Recreation Area Prospectus website:  http://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/tongass/landmanagement/projects/?cid=stelprd3845756
