Auk Village and Mendenhall Lake Campgrounds reservation and payment changes JUNEAU, Alaska–The US Forest Service reminds visitors that reservation and payment changes
are now in place for the Auk Village Campground, which opens May 1, and Mendenhall Lake Campground, which opens May 15.
In 2015, all campsites need to be reserved and paid for through Recreation.gov. Reservations and payment may be completed on line at
http://www.recreation.gov/ or by or calling 1-877-444-6777. The TDD number is 1-877-833-6777. The international call number is 1-518-885-3639.
Campground reservations may be made the same day, if a site is available, or up to six months in advance. Campers are reminded that the cumulative maximum stay at these campgrounds is 14 days a year. Payment
is with a credit or debit card only. Cash, checks, or any other form of payment will no longer be accepted at the campgrounds or the Juneau Ranger District office. These changes are being made to make the reservation system simpler for patrons, and to reduce the administrative costs of collecting, securing, recording, depositing, and auditing cash payments. For this service,
Recreation.gov does charge a $9 fee per on-line reservation, or a $10 fee for phone reservations. Auke Village Recreation Area main shelter and Skater’s Cabin day use sites will also soon be converted to the Recreation.gov system. When the conversion is complete, there will be another news release. Recreation.gov is your one-stop resource for trip planning, information, and reservations at 90,000 sites on federal lands, including national parks and forests, wildlife refuges, waterways, and recreation areas. For more information contact the Juneau Ranger District at 907-586-8800. -end- |
