Prescribed burns update for Coconino NF
Flagstaff, Ariz., Apr. 23, 2015, For Immediate Release —
Fire managers are planning a prescribed burn possibly Sunday and also burns throughout next week, depending on favorable weather conditions and winds that
help lessen the impact of smoke to surrounding communities.
Mormon Lake Basin Project: Planned ignition is Sunday (April
26), but may be delayed until further in the week depending on weather conditions. The burn area includes approximately 1,000 acres in an area just west of the Village of Mormon Lake north off Forest Road 219. Moderate smoke is predicted to disperse to the
north on Sunday.
Rocky Project: Planned ignition is any time between Tuesday
(April 28) through Friday (May 1). This burn includes 385 acres and is located about 25 miles south of Flagstaff (7 miles south of Munds Park) on the east side of Interstate 17.
Mint Project: Planned ignition is any time between Tuesday
(April 28) through Friday (May 1), depending on weather conditions. The burn includes 500 acres and will be about two miles directly south of Mormon Lake near the intersection of Lake Mary Road and Mormon Lake Road.
Upper Beaver Creek Project - Burn #2: Planned ignition will
be late next week, with the exact date to be determined. This burn includes 3,000 acres and is located in the Happy Jack area, approximately 38 miles south of Flagstaff.
