JUNEAU, Alaska, April 16, 2015- Beth Pendleton, Alaska Regional Forester, announced the new Tongass Deputy Forest Supervisor Tawnya Brummett who will report for duty June 14, 2015.

 

“Tawnya will bring exceptional leadership, innovation, energy and drive to her new role on the Tongass, as well as a keen focus on safety,” said Pendleton. 

Brummett currently serves as the District Ranger on Superior Ranger District of the Lolo National Forest and brings a diverse array of leadership experiences to the position including developing Rail-to-Trail and other recreation projects; building collaborative relationships focused on projects profitable for the land, rural economies, and future generations; administering mining plans of operations; leading endangered species studies; and accomplishing forest management objectives.

 

“Working on the nation’s largest national forest is an honor, said Brummett. “I have always enjoyed working collaboratively with local people to improve rural economies. I am looking forward to continuing that in Alaska.”

 

Brummett received a B.S. in Wildlife Biology/Communications degree from Stephen F. Austin University and holds extensive fire credentials, inclusive of journey level agency administrator. She began her Forest Service career in 1997 as a lookout tower employee and continued on as an initial attack firefighter on the Gila National Forest in 1998. She has served as a wildland firefighter with the Silver City Hotshots, a fire crewmember and wilderness firefighter on the Gila National Forest, and  a district wildlife biologist on both the Gila and Angelina/Sabine national forests.

 

Brummett will replace Tricia O’Connor who recently took a position as the Forest Supervisor on the Bridger-Teton National Forest in Wyoming.
