Crews respond to Kendrick Fire north of Flagstaff

Flagstaff, Ariz. – Firefighters are responding to the Kendrick Fire north of Flagstaff, one mile west of Hwy 180 near Kendrick Mountain and Horseshoe Hill. The fire is approximately 15 acres on a hillside in the burn scar from the 1996 Horseshoe Fire.

Because the fire is on a slope and burning in heavy dead/down fuels, firefighters are establishing containment lines on flatter, safer ground away from the main faire and will be conducting burnout operations to deepen and solidify those lines. This suppression tactic is commonly referred to as the “indirect strategy.”

Cause is under investigation.

The final size is expected to be approximately 260 acres, and fire managers anticipate having the fire fully contained by the end of the day. Smoke will be visible from Hwy 180. Crews will continue to monitor the fire for the next several days.

This will be the only update unless significant changes occur.
