Belknap Fire Reaches Final Size, AZ Trail Re-Opened

TUSAYAN, Ariz. – The lightning-caused Belknap Fire has reached its final size at 2,684 acres. With multiple days of wet weather,  no further growth is expected within the 2,962 acre planning area.

Once again, fire managers are very pleased with the overall effects and final outcome of this wildfire managed for resource benefits. Several resource objectives were accomplished including improved forest health and reduced likelihood of future high-severity fires in the forested areas of the Coconino Rim. Additionally, fire managers were able to reduce smoke impacts by accomplishing major burning operations over a short four day time period.

The temporary detour of Arizona Trail passage #36 through the fire planning area has been lifted and the trail is now fully open to the public. Over the past several days, crews worked on removing hazards and rehabilitating areas of the trail that were exposed to fire. Crews will continue to monitor all burned areas and complete rehabilitation work as needed.
