Tongass Advisory Committee second meeting scheduled

PETERSBURG, Alaska–The second meeting of the Tongass Advisory Committee, or TAC, will be held September 10-12 at the Travelodge Hotel Conference Room, 9200 Glacier Highway, Juneau, Alaska.

All TAC meetings are open to the public, with a portion of each agenda open for public comment.

The meeting objectives are to provide informational presentations and discussions regarding the substantive issues before the TAC, to review the types of elements and components to be included in recommendations, and crafting an initial set of key questions and draft process framework for future deliberations.

The Committee is being asked to make recommendations on forest management on the Tongass with emphasis on young-growth management; these recommendations may be included in the Forest Plan amendment.

TAC members advise and give recommendations to the Secretary of Agriculture through the Chief of the U.S. Forest Service. The membership represents a broad and diverse range of viewpoints and expertise, geographically diverse communities in and outside of Alaska, and people with a demonstrated commitment to working on collaborative solutions.
