Brienne Magee, 928-527-8290 or 928-310-6035 Crews respond to Kinder Fire near Clint’s Well, Bar M Fire activity to be minimal through the weekend Flagstaff, Ariz. –
Prior to the afternoon rains, crews made progress with ignition operations on the Bar M Fire yesterday, securing perimeters and maintaining moderate behavior. They initiated fire at the top of a hill
in the fire’s path to force flames to crawl down slowly and prevent the main fire from running too quickly upslope. Crews also utilized burnout operations to reinforce control roads on the southern perimeter.
Next week as conditions allow, crews may need to complete the final sections of their planned burnout operations in order to secure the southeastern control lines. The fire continues to smolder
and creep, and fire managers expect similar behavior over the next several days. Smoke, though light, will be noticeable in the area. Current size: 5,900 acres Crews on the Mogollon Rim Ranger District are responding to the lightning-caused Kinder Fire, located just southeast of Clint’s Well and the Hwy 87/Forest Highway 3 intersection. The area received
little precipitation yesterday. Last night, smoke drifted toward Pine, Strawberry and Payson. Over the next several days crews will be conducting burnout operations to establish a perimeter.. Current size: 325 acres. The immediate fire area is closed for public safety, but no major road or trail closures are in place at this time.
THE RIM COUNTRY BOWHUNTERS SHOOT – a local event scheduled for this weekend at the Long Valley Work Center - IS NOT AFFECTED BY THIS FIRE.
