Resource Benefit Fires Update 07.22.14 WILLIAMS, AZ –Today crews will continue active managed ignitions on all three fires across the forest. These ignitions are to strengthen
existing road perimeters and keep fire progressing within the planning areas. Crews on all fires are reporting good consumption of fuels, protection of archeological sites, and wildlife habitat benefits. Additionally, these fires help make local communities
more resilient by reducing the threat of future high intensity wildfires. Williams Ranger District:
Currently 1700 acres in size, the Sitgreaves Complex is located approximately 5 miles northwest of Parks, AZ. The fire is continuing to move down from the mountain peak and ridge lines with new growth to the west, south, and north. Additionally aerial ignitions
may continue along the north side of the mountain as needed. Additional hand ignitions may also occur along FSR 76. Smoke impacts will continue to vary each day.
A community meeting for the greater Parks, AZ area has been scheduled for Wednesday July 23, 2014 at 5:30pm at the Maine School Gymnasium. Tusayan Ranger District:
Currently 2500 acres in size, the McRae Fire is located approximately 5 miles southeast of Tusayan, AZ. Today crews are planning more managed ignitions as needed within the planning area. Smoke may become highly visible from Highway 64. North Kaibab Ranger District:
Currently 80 acres in size, the Quaking Fire is located approximately 40 miles southeast of Fredonia, AZ. Today crews are planning managed ignitions as needed along FSRs 271.
