Juneau, AK, August 12, 2013—The U.S. Forest Service will be conducting helicopter operations Wednesday, August 14, 2013 in the Juneau area. Loads of materials will be flown from the Dredge Lakes gravel pit to an area about two miles in on West Glacier Trail between 9 a.m. and noon. The staging area in Dredge Lakes will be closed temporarily. West Glacier Trail will remain open, however the site for the material drop, will be temporarily closed as loads are dropped. Helicopter operations will also support work at Windfall Lake Cabin. Materials will be flown from the cabin to the trailhead. As a result the cabin and trailhead areas will be temporarily closed Wednesday afternoon. The US Forest Service asks the public to avoid these areas this Wednesday for safety reasons.
