The lightning-caused fire is now 35 percent contained with full containment expected by Aug. 16. The fire, which was discovered late on Aug. 8, is estimated at 1,958 acres in size and is located in a remote area on the far west side of the North Kaibab district. It has been burning mainly in cheat grass and pinyon-juniper woodlands but has moved into rocky areas with less vegetation. Today, firefighters will conduct mop up operations, in which they seek out and extinguish hot spots within the fire's perimeter. All containment lines are holding, and firefighters expect to continue making progress in containing the fire today. Resources on scene include six engines, one dozer, three 20-person hand crews, one water tender, and multiple individual firefighting personnel.
