Full containment of the lightning-caused fire is expected by Tuesday. The fire, which was discovered late on Aug. 8, is located in a remote area on the far west side of the North Kaibab district. It has been burning mainly in cheat grass and pinyon-juniper woodlands. Today, firefighters will continue mop up operations, in which they seek out and extinguish hot spots within the fire's perimeter. Local Kaibab National Forest resource specialists will assess the area for any emergency conditions that may exist after the fire in order to determine if there are needs such as stabilizing soils, controlling sediment and debris movement, and mitigating impacts to any downstream values at risk. Fire managers will also begin demobilizing resources today. By the end of the day, it is expected that four engines and multiple individual firefighting personnel will remain on scene. This will be the final update on the East Fire unless conditions change significantly. Additional information is available on Inciweb at www.inciweb.org/incident/3127/.
