Prescribed Fire Planned on the
Williams Ranger District WILLIAMS, Ariz. – Williams Ranger District fire personnel are preparing for prescribed burning this week on the Frenchy project approximately
10 miles east of Williams, just southwest of Parks. Pending Arizona Department of Environmental Quality approval and favorable environmental conditions, two units totaling about 700 acres may be ignited Wednesday, Sept. 28 and Thursday, Sept. 29.
According to fire managers, smoke may travel north during operations and settle south and west overnight. Smoke can impact I-40 near Parks, areas surrounding the burn, and Sycamore Canyon.
Prescribed burns are part of an ongoing effort to return fire to a fire-adapted ecosystem, reduce hazardous fuels and prevent severe wildfire
occurrence. More prescribed burning is planned for the first week of October. Specific information on location and acreage will be sent as soon as plans are
set. For updates on Williams Ranger Distrct prescribed burns please visit
