Tusayan Ranger District Fire Update
TUSAYAN, Ariz. – A sizeable column of smoke was visible from the Parallel Fire Monday, nine miles southeast of Tusayan and south of Grand Canyon National Park. Smoke drifted east during the day toward the Coconino Rim. The fire grew another 300 acres, bringing the total size to 3,115 acres. Officials expect moderate fire activity and growth as long as the current weather system remains in place over northern Arizona.
The fire continues to meet the resource objectives officials have outlined for the incident which include improving forest health and returning fire to the ecosystem, thereby reducing the risk of a severe wildfire.
Three engines are working on the incident. Personnel will focus on the western edge of the fire Tuesday, igniting in select locations along Forest Road 304 to prevent rapid fire spread within the 4,300-acre designated management area.
The Woodbridge Fire, 18 miles east of Tusayan, remains about 1,000 acres with creeping and smoldering activity reported.
There are no closures associated with these fires; however, if you are traveling on the Tusayan Ranger District, please be cautious of personnel and equipment working on and near roads around the fires.
