Beale Fire Grows to 2,151 Acres

WILLIAMS, Ariz. – The Beale Fire, 16 miles northeast of Williams, grew slightly Monday according to reports from officials. The lightning-caused wildfire gained about 70 acres for a total size of 2,151 acres. It is being managed for resource objectives within an 8,000-acre boundary southwest of Kendrick Mountain on the Williams Ranger District.

Resources assigned to the incident include four engines, one water tender, one crew and one helicopter for a total of about 40 personnel. Early Tuesday, crews ignited east of Forest Road 100 as they started work to secure the northeastern boundary for the incident. However, they reported the cloud cover is hampering burning conditions, so ignitions were put on hold until the weather changes.

This morning, the fire lookouts said smoke traveled eastward toward Flagstaff early evening and layed in Spring Valley overnight. Similar smoke impacts may be expected over the next few days as actions are taken to prevent rapid fire spread within the management area.

A chance of afternoon and evening thunderstorms is forecasted today along with light southwest winds.

There are no closures associated with the Beale Fire; however, forest visitors are advised to avoid camping in or near the management area for the incident. In addition, there are potential hazards in the fire area including burning stumps, hidden stump holes and fire weakened trees. Please do not attempt to suppress active fire within the management area. Maps are posted at several locations around the management area for reference.
