Beale Fire Update

WILLIAMS, Ariz. – The Beale Fire grew steadily over the weekend, reaching approximately 2,000 acres, 16 miles northeast of Williams. The lightning-caused wildfire is being managed to improve forested conditions on the Williams Ranger District.

Due to this growth and plans for this week, additional resources have been ordered for the incident. Monday, two more engines and a hand crew will be assigned to assist with operations.

Officials report the fire has reached a management action point that will guide operations this week. Management Action Points (MAPs) are locations identified by fire managers where certain actions will be taken to prevent rapid fire spread within the interior of the designated boundary for the incident.

The MAP that has been reached on the Beale Fire means personnel will be working to secure the northeastern boundary of the management area. Hand ignitions are planned to begin early morning and end early afternoon to allow for the most smoke dispersal before nighttime. Smoke production is expected to increase over the next few days as these actions are completed. A chance of afternoon and evening thunderstorms is predicted this week.

There are no closures associated with the Beale Fire; however, forest visitors are advised to avoid camping in or near the management area for the incident. The trail to Kendrick Peak is open. Maps are posted at several locations around the management area for reference.
