Public Invited To Workshop On Forest Restoration Project
WILLIAMS, Ariz. – Members of the public are invited to a workshop Jan. 20 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Flagstaff Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZGFD) office to review a draft proposal to restore ponderosa pine ecosystems across two national forests in northern Arizona.
The workshop is the first in a series of meetings related to the Four Forest Restoration Initiative (4FRI) that will be held to review a proposed action to treat forested acres on the Kaibab and Coconino national forests.
The objectives of the Jan. 20 meeting at the AZGFD office, 3500 S. Lake Mary Rd., are to provide the public with an introduction and overview of work completed in preparation of the proposed action and to provide an opportunity to ask questions. Opportunities to review and discuss the proposed action will be available throughout the month of February. The dates for the February meetings will be released as soon as they are available.
4FRI is a collaborative effort to restore forest ecosystems on portions of four national forests along the Mogollon Rim in northern Arizona. The vision of 4FRI is restored forest ecosystems that support natural fire regimes, functioning populations of native plants and animals, and forests that pose little threat of destructive wildfire to thriving forest communities, as well as support sustainable forest industries that strengthen local economies while conserving natural resources and aesthetic values.
For additional information on the Jan. 20 workshop or the draft proposed action, please contact Paula Cote at (928) 226-4686.
