Prescribed burn plans for Friday
Flagstaff, AZ – Due to unfavorable winds, fire managers postponed the prescribed burn planned for today on the Eastside Project. Crews completed ignition on the Upper Beaver Creek project today. Smoke may be noticeable in the Verde Valley for the next few days.
If conditions are suitable tomorrow, fire managers may ignite on the Mountainaire Project.
Mountainaire Project – 1000 acres south of Flagstaff, east of I-17 and of Mountainaire. Smoke would be noticeable south of Flagstaff and would disperse to the northeast during the day. Residual smoke would settle overnight in the Mountainaire area. Some smoke may also settle in the Heckethorn area and Lake Mary Road.
Prescribed fire activity continues to be dependent on personnel availability, weather – including ventilation conditions, and approval from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (www.azdeq.gov).
Fire managers work hard to address the critical need for reducing the risk of severe wildfires near homes and neighborhoods while minimizing smoke impacts to communities. The Coconino National Forest coordinate prescribed fire plans with the partners in the Ponderosa Fire Advisory Council (which includes local fire departments), as well as neighboring forests, to reduce the chances of multiple prescribed fire projects impacting one area.
