Prescribed fire plans for Tuesday
Flagstaff, AZ – With the recent precipitation and more in the forecast, conditions are ideal for prescribed pile burning. Crews ignited on both the Oak Creek Canyon and Mountainaire projects today. Pending favorable conditions, crews will work in the same two areas again tomorrow.
All prescribed fire activity is dependent on weather – including ventilation conditions, personnel availability, and approval from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (www.azdeq.gov).
Fire managers work hard to balance the critical need for reducing the risk of severe wildfires near homes and neighborhoods with the importance of minimizing smoke impacts to communities. The Coconino National Forest coordinates prescribed fire plans with the partners in the Ponderosa Fire Advisory Council (which includes local fire departments), as well as neighboring forests, to reduce the overall smoke impact to local areas.
