Hull Cabin Available To Public Through Cabin Rental Program
TUSAYAN, Ariz. – Hull Cabin on the Tusayan Ranger District of the Kaibab National Forest is the most recent addition to the “Rooms with a View” cabin rental program on Arizona national forests.
Members of the public may now reserve the cabin through the National Recreation Reservation System by calling toll free (877) 444-6777 or visiting www.recreation.gov. Hull Cabin will remain available for reservation until Oct. 31, weather permitting. The cabin will be closed over the winter and will reopen for public use next year in April.
A detailed description of the services and amenities at Hull Cabin is available on the NRRS website. However, renters should be aware that the wood stove and fireplace are not currently operational and will not be available for use until the cabin reopens next spring.
Hull Cabin, which rents for $140 per night, can host a maximum of six people. No tent or RV camping is permitted within half a mile of the cabin.
Located just 1 mile south of the Grand Canyon, Hull Cabin is the oldest surviving historic cabin near the Grand Canyon’s south rim. This rustic cabin was built in 1889 as part of a sheep ranch and was acquired by the Forest Service in 1907 for use as a ranger station. In 1985, the cabin was listed to the National Register of Historic Places for its significance to the early history of homesteading, ranching and tourism in the Grand Canyon region.
Due to its continued use by the Forest Service as an administrative site, Hull Cabin survived the next century while most historic cabins in the Grand Canyon area were lost. In 2006, the Forest Service began making improvements to the cabin with the goal of entering it into the Arizona “Rooms with a View” cabin rental program. Entry into the program provides a unique recreational opportunity for the public in a scenic and historic setting, while providing for ongoing maintenance that is critical to the continued preservation of the cabin.
Hull Cabin is located in a secluded stand of large ponderosa pine trees. Activities in the area include hiking, mountain biking, and wildlife and bird viewing. For additional information and to reserve the cabin, please call toll free (877) 444-6777 or visit www.recreation.gov.
