Hobble Fire Update

WILLIAMS, Ariz. – The Hobble Fire started August 30 by lightning, 18 miles northeast of Williams. The 1,026-acre fire is being managed for resource objectives as it continues its’ slow progression near the Hobble Mountains.

Today personnel will be on scene monitoring fire growth, scouting the area, and assessing the need for future management actions. “The fire is meeting the resource objectives we have identified for this incident,” said Jeff Sanocki, Hobble Fire Incident Commander. “The low to moderate fire spread is reducing accumulated debris and recycling important nutrients back into the soil, thereby improving forest health and enhancing wildlife habitat in this area.”

Game Management Unit 7W is within the Hobble Fire Management Area.  If you are planning to camp in this unit, please be aware that even though the fire is currently spreading slowly, it has the potential to become more active. It may be necessary to move your camp if fire activity increases.

The weather forecast shows clear, dry conditions and good ventilation remaining across Northern Arizona through Saturday. Managers expect minimal smoke impacts under this weather pattern.
