Hobble Fire Update
WILLIAMS, Ariz. – There was a slight increase in activity on the Hobble Fire, 18 miles northeast of Williams, over the weekend. The fire is moving slowly to the south and west of the Hobble Mountains and has grown to 987 acres.
Officials are managing the fire for resource objectives within a designated 58,000-acre area. Some of the objectives fire managers are working to achieve are protecting wildlife habitat, returning fire to a fire-adapted ecosystem, and reducing hazardous fuel accumulation.
The Hobble Fire will likely continue for several weeks. During this time, crews will take specific management actions to redirect the fire to keep it within the established boundary.
Today personnel will be on scene monitoring fire growth. The weather forecast shows warm and dry conditions continuing this week. With prevailing southwest winds, managers expect smoke to travel north of the fire site.
Archery elk season began in Game Management Unit 7W Sept. 10. This game management unit is within the Hobble Fire Management Area. If you are planning to camp in Game Management Unit 7W, please be aware that even though current fire growth is minimal, it has the potential to become more active. It may be necessary to move your camp if fire activity increases.
