Hobble Fire Update

WILLIAMS, Ariz. – Managers report minimal growth on the Hobble Fire, 18 miles northeast of Williams, after measurable precipitation fell Tuesday. The fire is 950 acres. Most activity is interior smoldering. It will take several dry days before the fire resumes spreading.

Officials are managing the fire for resource objectives within a designated 58,000-acre area. Some of the objectives fire managers are working to achieve are protecting wildlife habitat, returning fire to a fire-adapted ecosystem, and reducing hazardous fuel accumulation.

The fire is burning within Game Management Unit 7W, a popular area for hunting and camping. Game Management Unit 7W is north of Interstate 40, east of Highway 64 and south and west of Highway 180.

If you are planning to camp in Game Management Unit 7W, please be aware that even though activity is currently light, the fire has potential to become more active as dry conditions return. The Hobble Fire will likely continue for several weeks. Fire activity will vary depending upon the weather, type and amount of vegetation, and terrain.
