Eagle Rock Fire - Update

WILLIAMS, Ariz. – Kaibab National Forest resource management specialists have prepared a plan to repair and restore areas affected by the Eagle Rock Fire, 11 miles northeast of Williams. Due to areas of high burn severity on the 3,420 acre fire, measures are underway to reroute storm runoff and reduce the potential for flooding and mudslides as the monsoons approach.

Some restoration work has already been done, such as repairing fire lines and felling trees on steep slopes within the fire perimeter. In the coming days, roads will be graded, trails will be repaired, stock tanks and culverts will be cleaned, and ditches will be dug. Over the long-term, the fire area will be seeded to help prevent erosion, hazard signs will be posted, and patrols will be established after significant storm events.

There will be a public meeting at the Maine Consolidated School in Parks on Monday, July 12 at 6:00 p.m.  Forest officials will be present to update the community on the rehabilitation efforts.

The fire area closure reamins in effect until further notice. The northern boundary of the closure is Forest Road 97, east to Forest Road 141, south to the junction of Forest Road 76, and continuing south to Forest Road 104. Then, the fire dozer line will be closed to the junction of Forest Road 522 continuing north to the junction of Forest Road 97.

Please use caution while traveling on and around County Road 141 as personnel and equipment will be working in the area. Also be aware of the potential for trees falling across roads and flash flooding.
