Coconino National Forest Planned Prescribed Fire Activity

Remember that all prescribed fire activity is dependant on weather, crew availability, and approval from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (www.azdeq.gov).

Crews successfully treated 400 acres today (Thursday 5/14) on the Lake Mary Project.  Smoke during ignition was visible from town, and dispersed quickly thereafter.

For Friday, May 15
Crews will continue on the LAKE MARY PROJECT: Up to 300 acres southwest of Lower Lake Mary and the Lake Mary Meadows community, off Forest Road 132.  Smoke should move northeast with the forecast winds.  Crews should be complete with ignition by mid-morning.
Legal Location: T20N, R8E, S30

Fire managers were also planning a prescribed fire on the Mars Hill Project near Lowell Observatory; however, the conditions forecast for this weekend won’t be suitable for a prescribed burn that close to Flagstaff.  Because fire managers are constantly evaluating conditions in order to minimize smoke impacts as much as possible, they’ve decided that the Lake Mary Burn will be the only prescribed fire project Friday.
