Crews from the Coconino National Forest plan to conduct several broadcast prescribed burns next week. During a "broadcast" burn, low-intensity fire is ignited (or broadcast) across the forest floor, cleaning up pine needles and other accumulated forest debris, and stimulating plant growth. Broadcast burns are ignited in the morning if wind, humidity and fuel moistures fall within "prescribed" values. Smoke usually dissipates by late afternoon.
Locations on the Mormon Lake District are:
        -        Mint Project Area, Southeast of Mormon Lake.
        -        Lake Mary Project Area, West of Lower Lake Mary.
        -        Rocky Project Area, East of I-17 near Rocky Park exit.
On the Mogollon Rim District:
        -        Imax Project Area, northwest of Clints Well. This is a maintenance burn which has been previously burned, so smoke impacts to Forest Highway 3 and subdivisions in the area should be light.

For additional prescribed fire information, visit our website, www.fs.fed.us/r3/coconino/conditions, or call the Coconino NF Prescribed Burn Hotline 928-226-4607.

The Coconino County Health Department provides information about smoke concerns and offers suggestions for minimizing smoke impacts to your family
and home.
