freetype-2.12.1, which supplies libfreetype.so.6.18.3.  A check of the package manager's
file bin turns up a patch file freetype-2.11.0-COLR_v1_clipbox.patch.xz, but I don't know
whether it was applied here.  Some flags offered by the package were turned off at build time.

I also have an unusual setting or two designed to clean up older fonts at the expense of newer 
ones, but I don't see how that would cause my version of the package to work when yours 
doesn't.
