Hello Mavridis,

thanks a lot to you and everyone else involved for the good work. After 
having upgraded to the fixed version 4:14.0.12~pre5-0debian10.0.0+0 the 
bug is fixed, AFAICT.

All of the switches for GTK2-styles, GTK3-styles and GTK2-fonts do work 
correctly now without mangling UTF8 characters in the user's bashrc 
file. Everytime a switch is applied the user's bashrc file gets touched 
and the time stamp changed, though.
